On Talking About Gamers this week you can find Robbiejo, Forgetfool, Faitios and Rburt digging into the latest news, games and topics. The show starts off with Mafia 2. The oft-hyped and oft-riciduled game finally gets put under the microscope to see if it lives up to Forgetfool's dreams. In other games we also take a look at the animated brutality of Shank and Faitios begins to worry that he is agreeing with Forgetfool about Mass Effect.

We also get into some pretty deep topics including games coming out too soon, the problem of finishing single player games and the recent outcry against used games by developers. The used game conversation gets especially heated as Robbiejo calls out developers for whining. But hey what kind of episode would it be without Robbie hating on something in depth?

This is just the tip of the iceberg so strap yourself in and get ready for Talking About Gamers Episode 60!

Preheat your oven to 410 and put Episode 115 of the Post Game Report in for approximately 60 minutes. This is a treat that takes some time. Phoenix410, your Iron Chef this week is joined by SugarFree, HeroicSuperman and Talking About Gamers co-host Robbiejo for a podcasting treat. We tried to get HeroicSuperman to open up about Kayne and Lynch 2 and Mafia 2 but he wasn't feeling particularly motivated by the content of the games to really talk about it at length. What follows after the mediocre sequel talk is a genuine conversation about the state of the PlayStation Move and Microsoft's Kinect.

To close the show, we do our best impression of Podtacular and talk an awful lot about Halo: Reach and the overall Halo Universe.

Serve this episode up with a fine wine (or a glass of water if you're underage) and enjoy.

We have a long one lined up this week on Talking About Gamers. We had a decent outline with great topics and those topics led into other topics which led into other topics and so on. In other words this week we are bringing you a tangent friendly podcast. Join Robbiejo, Forgetfool, Rburt and OneDiverseKid as we dive into the latest conversation piece on the forums: "Where is Microsoft headed?" The discuss what we can expect from both Microsoft and Sony in the future and if their differing focuses may turn the tide. We talk about MOVE, Kinect, platform exclusives, Microsoft's dwindling developers and Sony's extra content deals.

In games we bring some impressions of Kane and Lynch 2, everyone is loving the new Lara Croft game and Forgetfool has changed his mind about Monday Night Combat. OneDiverseKid also asks everyone what games they are most excited for over the next six months.

All of this and we still take some time to touch on recent Gamescom announces and more. It truly is a packed episode of Talking About Gamers!

Remember When - Episode 38 PDF Print E-mail
Written by Jay Van Beveren

Remember-When-higher-res

Parris and Jay vs. The World

Prepare yourself for a battle royale.  Remember When is back with a new podcast, and this time, it's a battle of opinions!

We sit down this week for a quick episode, as we look back on our respective experiences with Scott Pilgrim vs. The World.  Jay loved it passionately, Parris hated it to the point of nearly walking out.  With two diametrically opposed opinions, it's going to be a fun discussion.

Jay talks about his experiences with the movie, why he was pleased he DIDN'T read the comics ahead of time, and how he appreciates the love letter effect in the film.  Parris explains The Wife Effect, his feelings on why the romantic storyline deflated the overall film, and why Michael Cera might not have been the best choice for the role.

Two people enter the ring.  Where will it end?  Listen in and find out.

Then we wrap up the show with some talk about True Blood, Mad Men, why AMC is one of the greatest cable networks available, and our hopes and fears for the Fall TV season.  Believe it or not, we even manage to avoid spoilers in this section as well!

Don't forget to join our Facebook group!  It lets you keep up to date with the show in between our podcast releases, gives you the first look at our upcoming live recording sessions, and allows you to communicate with us and your fellow Remember When fans in between shows.  Check it out at this link.  You can also follow us on Twitter.

This week on Talking About Gamers we're bringing you a two-fer. Part one is our standard show filled with topics, news and impressions. Part two is a developer call with Jack Scalici, the Director of Creative Production for Mafia 2. Make sure you stick around to the end to hear both parts!

In the show Robbiejo, Forgetfool, Shayward and Faitios are joined by community member Trashbat for some talk about the hottest things going around the gaming world. Faitios brings some belated Comic-Con impressions on Killzone 3, Playstation Move, Assassin's Creed Brotherhood and more. We also discuss how gaming can expand in the future and touch on the delicate subject of Medal of Honor's setting.

Diving further into the podcast you will find impressions on the Mafia 2 demo, Transformers War for Cybertron, Monday Night Combat and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. Everyone also takes a second to gush over the Bioshock Infinite reveal and we ask ourselves if we think Call of Duty Black Ops is worth buying.

Post-Game-Report-2010-tag Hear ye, Hear ye. Presenting a new episode of the Post Game Report for all the land. SugarFree is joined by Phoenix410 and SoldierX01 for another week of whatever it is we do on this podcast. Without JVB and HeroicSuperman by our sides, we called in Peterocc from Gamertag Radio to fill the void. Believe it or not, we had a 25 minute discussion that started with Soldier's opinion of the Kayne and Lynch 2 demo. We also spend a lot of time talking about the total experience of Madden 11. I know what you're thinking, without JVB on the show this week, who will carry the mantle for NFL 2K5? You'll have to listen to find out. Rounding out episode 113 is a talk about the role communites currently play and should play within the game development process. In this podcaster's opinion, there were lots of thought provoking statements made during this talk, hopefully you will agree.

Remember When - Episode 37 PDF Print E-mail

Remember-When-higher-res

You've been living in a dream world

Put on your pajamas and grab a cup of warm milk, because Episode 37 of Remember When is about to take you into the world of dreams.

We kick off our show with our latest "Great Movie Jay Has Never Seen", discussing the 1980's camp film "Dreamscape".  It's been a quarter of a century since the movie was released in theaters, and Dennis Quaid's hair has certainly improved since then.  But whether or not Jay's going to be able to appreciate this piece of nostalgia after all this time is questionable.  Listen in as he talks about the bad decision he made with the movie, as well as why he's not kicking himself over it.

Then we dive into the Dream Within A Dream, talking about Christopher Nolan's latest cinematic release, "Inception".  Written and directed from the muse behind The Dark Knight and Memento, this film has critics raving and audiences walking out of their theaters in wonder.  We sit and offer our opinions on the film, offer our opinion on the ending (and why its various interpretations help the film achieve its brilliance), and rave about the newfound appreciation we have for Tom Hardy.  We also talk about what we think was lacking in the film, and how a second viewing should be mandatory for anyone seeing it.

Finally, we wrap up the show with some talk about our TV viewing habits of late, our thoughts on True Blood... and could a hulking be in the mix?

So we knew Godfree was coming on this week to talk about the Mafia 2 Launch Parties in Miami and New York. But we didn't plan on Parris, from Remember When, showing up to join the fun. What resulted was a podcast that could have easily lasted over 3 hours. Instead you get those two along with the main crew of SugarFree, JVB, SoldierX01, Phoenix410 and HeroicSuperman. We promise you wont be disappointed.

We have some strong impressions on the Medal of Honor Beta (note, strong does not mean positive). Heroic Superman's revisiting of the sleeper hit Darksiders leads to an interesting discussion about God of War 3. Godfree weighs in on the latest Summer of Arcade release for the Xbox Live Arcade, Castlevania HD. And of course, JVB has a new topic in his ever-evolving "Analyze This" segment. Good times.

This week the show went through a lot. We started off one man down and less than 15 minutes in we lost another. Do not fear as we pulled together and still managed to ptu out a great show. Join Robbiejo and Forgetfool (with a brief appearance by Shayward) as they dive into a smorgasboard of topics.

The main course this week is the idea of the console MMO. None have been too successful so far but DC Universe hopes to change that and we discuss why other companies haven't tried harder and what's standing in their way.

Gazing into our crystal balls we look ahead at what upcoming games, if any, can top the likes of Mass Effect 2 or Red Dead Redemption and be crowned 2010 Game of the Year. Looking further into our crystal balls, do we envision a future with a universal console or a time where handhelds will rule everything? No, but we do discuss the possibilities of either of these things happening.

All this and much more on this week's Talking About Gamers Podcast!
