During Sony's press conference today at Gamescom Insomniac Games took the stage to show off their next title. After revealing Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One to the masses they apparently decided that just one game wasn't good enough and also announced Resistance 3.
First up was Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One. Similar to the double meaning in Left 4 Dead the number in the title is used to hint at the four player drop-in/drop-out co-op featured in the game. The four characters are Ratchet, Clank, Qwark and Dr. Nefarious, each equipped with the franchise's typical zany weaponry. The game is scheduled for a Fall 2011 release.
Insomniac Games also announced the much rumored Resistance 3. As you might be able to tell from the iconic Statue of Liberty in the game's logo it appears that the game is going to be set in New York this time around. Resistance 3 was also given a 2011 window although no quarter was mentioned.
While neither of these games came as much of a surprise to me both games add to what is shaping up to be a great 2011 for PlayStation 3 fans. |

For the last couple of years, Playstation exclusive franchises like Tekken, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear Solid have all either shown up on Microsoft's Xbox 360, or have announced they intend to. Well, today it seems the shoe is on the other foot as Bioware has just announced that Mass Effect 2 will be releasing on the PS3 in January 2011.
During EA's Gamescom press conference, Bioware's Dr. Ray Muzyka took the stage to make the announcement. According to a press release, Mass Effect 2 on PS3 "will include the full Mass Effect 2 game and hours of bonus content, making this the perfect introduction to BioWare's award-winning action RPG franchise."
It seems to me that the original Mass Effect would have been the perfect introduction to the RPG franchise. It doesn't seem right that Bioware would not give PS3 owners the ability to transfer their game saves from part one to two. Maybe "bonus content" means a double pack. It is blu-ray after all. Hopefully Bioware will announce something like this in the future.
Check out the announcement trailer after the break.

According to Amazon France listings, Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia might be the next PS2 trilogies to get the HD remake for the PS3.
First spotted by The Sixth Axis, the listings don't reveal much beyond a November 2nd release date and $39.95 price tag. Will Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory get online mutliplayer? We will have to wait and see. Remember, this is still a rumor as nothing has been confirmed by either Sony or Ubisoft. If this does turn out to be true though, November just got a whole lot busier for PS3 owners. |

Sony's fall lineup just became one game shorter. Yesterday Zipper announced on the official SOCOM blog that the first person shooter was moving to a 2011 release. SOCOM 4 was originally slated to release this fall and was one of the earliest games announced to have MOVE support.
Community Manager Jeremy Dunham released this statement: "While we're certainly aware that you've been looking forward to playing SOCOM 4 this year, we don't want to take any shortcuts. Instead, we want to deliver the best and most immersive SOCOM game we possibly can and we're going to use our extra time to do just that."
With SOCOM 4 being one of Sony's highlights when discussing MOVE this news will certainly gives shooter fans one less reason to be interested in the new device at launch. |

One of the major complaints against using Netflix on the PS3 is the necessity of a disc to access your instant queue. Many find it just too tedious to insert the disc everytime they want to watch a program. Combine that with longer load times and most people tend to prefer the Xbox 360 for their instant viewing needs. That might soon change. During a recent earnings call, Netflix CEO Reed Hastings had this to say on the matter.
"Before our next call in October, we expect to be launching a major new version of our Sony PS3 user interface which doesn't require a disc and is dynamically updated continuously with the latest Netflix UI improvements." He also went on to note that more TV content should be popping up as well. "We see TV shows as equally important to our franchise as movies. At this point we can start to afford some major TV shows and movies on an exclusive basis, and plan going forward on a mix of more expensive exclusive content and lower-cost non-exclusive content. [We] are looking for more exclusive deals, especially on TV shows, as well as non-exclusive content."
Combine this with the Hulu Plus app (once preview is over), and the PS3 will be your home console choice for streaming TV and movie content that doesn't require any additional fee to access (I'm looking at you Xbox LIVE) as well as any additional software. This is some good news for all the Sony faithful out there. |

Sony has announced via its official blog that The Sly Collection will cost $39.99. That's the exact same price as Sony's previous HD remake, The God of War Collection.
So what does $39.99 get you this time? Well, you get high-definition versions of Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus, Sly 2: Band of Thieves and Sly 3: Honor Among Thieves. All three games will feature 3D support, as well as Playstation Move mini-games and trophy support; three platinums included.
You got to give it up to Sony for bringing back classics the right way. Who really wants to play an old PS2 game on their nice HDTV (so many pixels, ugh)? Can't wait to see what other classics they redo in this format. There are so many choices; Ico and Shadow of Colossus, the Resident Evil series or even the Metal Gear Solid series. Which games do you want to see Sony give an HD remake to? Get to commenting. |

While it has arrived with little fanfare it appears that Hulu Plus has finally arrived on the Playstation 3. The news was announced today on the Playstation official blog that the service is now available to Playstation Plus members. As reported earlier a subscription to Sony's premium service is only required during Hulu's preview period which is currently invite-only. There has been no announced date for when the preview period will end.
The Hulu Plus application is currently available for download from the Playstation Store. All Playstation Plus subscribers can download it and you will be able to request a preview invite through the application if you have not already. |

One of the complaints against ModNation Racers when it came out was the brutal difficulty during the single player campaign. This was amplified when gamers found out that they had to play through the single player in order to unlock more parts to customize their racers and karts. Luckily for players a patch is coming to tone down that difficulty.
Yesterday it was announced on the Playstation official blog that there is a patch "in development" that will add a casual career difficulty. This new difficulty will tone down the aggressive nature of the other AI racers and will likely lead to an overall more fun experience.
I've personally stayed away from ModNation Racers partially due to the reports of a difficult single player. If that is going to be ironed out soon I'm definitely going to have to check back into the game. |

Last week we learned that to watch Hulu Plus, Hulu's new subscription based service, on our PS3 that we would also require a subscription to Playstation Plus. Well Hulu has just released an announcement that might make a lot of people happy.
The statement read:
"With the launch of Hulu Plus there have been many rumors started and we are trying our best to remedy the situation. Specifically to your question, the Playstation Plus service is only a requirement durin the preview period.
Once the preview period ends you should be able to download the Hulu Plus app but that will still require the Hulu Plus subscription.
Right now we are limiting the number of users but Hulu Plus will be launching to the public very soon so stay tuned!'
So basically you only need to subscribe to Playstation Plus to get access to the preview of Hulu Plus. Once it goes public (thought to be in July), all you will need is a subscription to Hulu Plus. I wonder how many people signed up for Playstation Plus exclusively for Hulu Plus? They must be kicking themselves right about now. I'm sure glad I didn't do the same thing.

Sony has announced that it will be offering the Playstation 3 Slim in a new "classic white" with additional HDD space starting later this month in Japan.
There will be two different models, a 160 GB and a 320 GB version. They will be replacing the older 120 GB and 250 GB versions. The 160 GB model will retail for 29,980 yen ($350 US) while the 320 GB model will cost 34,980 yen ($400 US). They are set to be released on July 29th in Japan. While Sony does sell a white wireless controller stateside, there is still no word if Sony plans to sell these new models in Europe or in North America. We will let you know when we hear more.
Does color make a difference in your console purchase decisions? If so, what colors do you prefer and which do you avoid? I, for one, never really cared much on this issue. I did however refuse to buy a purple Gamecube. Let us know what you think in the comments. |

Playstation Plus is now officially available for purchase. A firmware update is available right now that will allow for gamers to use the recently announced service. The service costs $49.99 for a full year or $17.99 for three months. As a bonus a full year's subscription currently comes with three free months of service. Along with the release we also have a better idea of what all comes with the service as well as a complete list of everything that is available the first month.
The benefits include:
- Free downloads of select PSN games, PSP Minis and PSOne Classics
- Free downloads of select add-ons
- Free downloads of select themes and avatars
- One hour game trial of a select PS3 title
- Exclusive discounts on PSN content ranging from 20-50% off
- Early access to certain demos and betas
- Ability to automatically download updates and select PSN content
Each month the selection of free content and discounts will change so you will have something new to look forward to each month. The one catch is that any free games you download will only be yours as long as you are an active subscriber. If you cancel your subscription you will lose access to those games until you become a member again. Anything other than free games like free add-ons or something bought on discount will be yours to keep no matter what.
So is all of that enough for the price they are asking? In theory you are getting much more than the $49.99 yearly fee but the discounts and games offered still need to be stuff that you're interested in.
Hit the jump for a full list of everything available the first month.

I still will not believe this until I have the game in my hands. At yesterday's Sony press conference, it was announced that Polyphony Digital's latest, Gran Turismo 5, would finally be launching on November 2, 2010. This would mean that the time between the announcement of GT 5 and it's actual release will have been four years.
Perhaps as a way to reward those fans who've waited, Sony announced that Gran Turismo 5 would have a collector's edition. It comes with a 1:43 scale dicast Nissan GT-R Spec V, a 300 page car guide, a GT branded key chain, a voucher for five DLC cars, and (as TV infomercials have said is one of the most important things in a package like this) a certificate of authenticity. This edition will come in at a steep $99. |

One of my favorite games of 2009 was inFAMOUS. Leading up to E3 a sequel was all but confirmed with images of the sequel floating around from the cover of Game Informer. Needless to say I doubt that the "reveal" of inFAMOUS 2 surprised anyone but we did get a first look at the game and some hints as to the direction that the series is going.
The trailer presented a changed Cole McGrath who for some reason sported a full head of hair and to me didn't really look like the same character. He did, however, still sport his courier shoulder-belt that is pretty iconic. In the trailer it appears that he has gained some new powers with images of him controlling a tornado and creating ice crystals that sprouted from the ground. He also was seen using some sort of hand-held weapon that appeared to channel his electricity. The trailer ended with a huge black monster different than anything we've seen in the first game.
inFAMOUS 2 was given a 2011 release window and personally it is easily one of my most anticipated games of next year. |

Yesterday at EA’s press conference, both Dead Space 2 and Medal of Honor were both shown being played on a PS3. There was some speculation as to the reason behind this, but now we’ve got a much better idea.
At Sony’s press conference today, EA announced that both Dead Space 2 and Medal of Honor would have PS3 exclusive limited editions. Dead Space 2 will include Dead Space: Extraction, previously only available for the Wii. In addition, the game will be supported by the Playstation Move. The Medal of Honor limited edition will include an HD version of Medal of Honor: Frontline.
Earlier this year, EA released Dante’s Inferno: Divine Edition specifically for the PS3, which included additional free content. Perhaps this is a sign of EA siding more with Sony, but it seems more likely to me that Sony had to pay a bit of money to EA for these exclusive editions.
Does this affect anyone’s purchasing decision on either game?

I’d like to start by saying that David Jaffe is a liar. After consistently denying that his company, Eat Sleep Play was not developing a new Twisted Metal game, it seems natural that, yes they are making a new Twisted Metal game.
If that weren’t enough, David Jaffe, along with other Eat Sleep Play members showed up to personally demonstrate two game modes: Death Match and Nuke. While Death Match is fairly standard, Nuke is more of a CTF variant. There are two teams, each with their own statue. In this mode players need to capture the opponent team’s leader, drag them with their car them to a spot on the map, sacrifice that leader and then launch a missile at the opposing teams statue. It’s insane and seems just in line with Twisted Metal.
I’ve played every single Twisted Metal game (including the oft forgot “Small Brawl”) and I know that I’m absolutely psyched. I'd like to apologize to anyone who heard me screaming, "YES" when this announcement was made, as well. However, the last Twisted Metal game was released in 2005 on the PSP and re-released in 2008 for the PS2. Before that, the last “true” Twisted Metal game was Twisted Metal Black in 2001. Does this series still hold the weight that it once did? We’ll know when the game launches in 2011.
