Poor Spore. It wasn’t enough for the game to have a 1 and a half star rating Amazon, nor was it enough for the game's DRM to have caused a class action lawsuit. No, today another blow has been dealt as it seems that the game is the most illegally downloaded game of 2008. The statistics, compiled by Torrent Freak through Bit Torrent, show that Spore has been illegally downloaded a whopping 1.7 million times. Just for perspective, the next most illegally downloaded game, The Sims 2, had 1.15 million downloaded.
Looking at the list, there are 4 games (Spore, Far Cry 2, Fallout 3 and Crysis) feature the vastly popular DRM, SecuRom, proving that DRM is a guaranteed way to stop game piracy.
