My blog posts

Friday, January 13 2012 My Most Anticipated Games of 2012

I haven't really written anything in the MyBlog section for a while. It's time for that to change. Let's go with a good ol' most anticipated list.

The more I think about 2012, there's only a handful of games I really can't wait to play. I thought I would share these and see what you guys think.

5.) PSVita

It feels like I'm the only one really excited about handheld systems anymore. Games on mobile devices don't really do it for me and I need portable gaming machines during down time during school or even breaks during the ol' 9 -5.

4.) Halo 4

I'm not as big of a Halo fan as I used to be. The original Halo pretty much got me back into gaming after a long hiatus. Looking forward to seeing what 343 Industries can do with the IP.

3.) Bioshock Infinite

I never understood why Bioshock 2 got as much crap as it did. Sure, returning to Rapture wasn't as great the second time around but I thought Bioshock 2, in turns of gameplay, was superior to the original in almost every way. Looking forward to this one because Mr. Levine is back in charge. Almost a guarantee that it will be something extraordinary.

2.) Darksiders 2

I couldn't really get into Skyward Sword recently. The more I think about it, it seems to be because the original Darksiders was the "Zelda" game I had been wanting for a long time. Mature, pretty and with a whole lot of ass whipping. I was expecting co-op would be a part of Darksiders 2 when I saw the final cut-scene of the original. But playing as Death during the same time as the original game pretty much rules that out. Even so, every trailer I see gets me pumped again to play the sequel.

1.) Mass Effect 3

Come on. Its Mass Effect! On a recent episode of TAGer's, Robbiejo got a bit of crap for saying Mass Effect 2 might be his favorite game of all-time. I'm right there with him. Its certainly my favorite game of this generation and easily in my top three of all-time. Hopefully ME3 can live up to the hype. I was skeptical about ME2 living up the ME1 after playing the original. Part 2 didn't end up so bad.

What did I miss guys?? I look forward to seeing your lists in the comments if you would like to share.

This year was supposed to be one of the greatest years ever for videogames. We are now just about half way through the year and I have to say what a lot of people are thinking: so far, this has kind of been a letdown.

It is rare to see a year packed from January to December with so much AAA hotness. The year started off with a bang with the release of Dead Space 2 in January. Since then we have seen the release of high profile games like Killzone 3, Dragon Age 2, Homefront, Socom 4 and Portal 2. Besides Dead Space 2, Portal 2 is the only other game I can think of that has any chance of being in most Top 5 discussions at the end of the year.  Sure, there have been some solid distractions like Mortal Kombat, and Crysis 2 but ‘disappointment’ seems to be the best word to describe 2011 so far.

I know, I know. There are plenty of games coming out later in the year that can fix that. We still got Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Gears of War 3, Uncharted 3 and Batman Arkham City to look forward to. I also can’t forget to mention the FPS battle between Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3. But I now look at some of these games with a more skeptical eye. Some of the games that have already been released looked like sure-things as well.

With the release of LA Noire being tomorrow, I’m reminded that sometimes the best games to look forward to are the ones you don’t have any expectations from. Nothing expected, just experienced. Sure, it’s a Rockstar game and that comes with its share of hype but a new IP it is. And new IPs, in my opinion, are what end up making or breaking a year. Look at Bioshock and Mass Effect in 2007 or how about Left 4 Dead in 2008. Even Rockstar’s previous release, Red Dead Redemption, was a great example of this in 2010. These are the games that define the year that they were released and define the future of the industry.

But unfortunately, you can't always be too hopeful. Fellow new IP Brink just confirmed that for many people as well. Here’s to hoping that LA Noire can help define the rest of the year as a success just as Brink has cemented the first half as something else entirely.

Sunday, May 08 2011 Extra Gears 3 Beta Codes

Hey everyone. Got an email with some extra codes for the Gears of War 3 Beta. If you still haven't gotten one and want to join in for the last week than have at it. Just do everyone a favor and leave a comment on which one you used. Happy shotgunning!

It is November 1st and thus the holiday season has officially begun. While alot of games seemed to have postponed their release until next year, there is still a nice miriad of delicous game morsals to feast upon. I, for one, am really psyched to get my hands on Left 4 Dead 2. I am curious to see how the rest of the TAG community feels. Do you have a hankering for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 or is New Super Mario Bros Wii more your style? Let's not forget about Assassins Creed 2. What game has got you dreaming  all night, drooling up that pillow of yours? I am really curious to find out.
