My blog posts

The reason why I own a PS3 is because of DCU online. The preview coverage over the past year got me excited enough to purchase a console  so regardless of good or bad reviews I would be picking it up. Now that I own the game it has taken some getting used to but my first impressions are pretty positive.

Character creation is very addictive so they had me at jump. Once I got into the world it reminded me of Fable 2  how you see all these other heroes in your world that don't affect you, occasionally you are on the same mission as someone else and they may lend hand but most of the time your on your own especially when you get to a boss fight. The amount of DC characters in the world is awesome and to me whether I'm jumping from building to building or flying it is fun to be my own hero.

My opinion is that this will probably be the only MMO I ever play and it is only because of the DC license. I have no experience with any other game in the same genre so maybe I am not supposed to enjoy it but the more I delve into the world the more I am enjoying it.

The 15 dollar a month subscription is another story so once the 30 days free runs out I will evaluate whether it is worth the price but until then I look forward to taking my hero all over the DC universe.

Sunday, June 07 2009 I'm addicted to 1 vs 100
Maybe it's just me but 1 vs 100 has been addictive this past weekend.  Even though I could not tell if people were actually winning prizes or not I just enjoyed being a part of it. I expect to be playing it often with my family all chipping in to answer questions.  Best move Microsoft has made in a looooooong time.
Tuesday, January 27 2009 "I am watching the Watchmen."
I finally got around to coughing up a couple of bucks on the live marketplace for the Watchmen motion comic and I really enjoyed them. The Watchmen must have flown over my head back in the day and I really do want to see the upcoming movie but I don't want to go back and read a 20 year old comic  book to understand what is going on. The motion comics are done really well and I hope to get around to seeing them all before the movie comes out.
    • I have never played through a Prince of Persia game because of the trial and error style of the game but the new version is really impressive. There is no online multiplayer or time trials or high scores. The game actually has fun gameplay and interesting characters. It is just a fun game, do you remember when we played games without worrying about leveling up or keeping up with other online players skills? This game is next gen in its high production value and simplified gameplay, it actually does what Mirror's Edge started out doing right but fell off half way through the game. To anyone who is looking to just sit back and lose themselves for a few hours should check it out. I really hope this style of game becomes more common in the future.
Wednesday, January 21 2009 Why can't I enjoy the Wii?

I am old enough to remember when Nintendo was the top dog in the video game industry and to see them on top again is refreshing. They are not my generations Nintendo though, they have captured a new generations imagination. The problem for me has been that besides first party titles like Mario Galaxy or even Wii Sports I can't find anything on the hottest console around to play. I have to basically force my kids to play it half of the time and the other half it just collects dust. There are probably a lot of people out there that really enjoy the Wii and that is great for you but  I just don't get it.

There seems to be some type of disconnect between the third party developers and Nintendo where the quality of there games are pretty bad. Nintendo is leading the way but these third party developers have to do a better job at giving me an enjoyable experience rather that just cashing in on a mediocre game.

Nintendo you started the innovation with the Wii a couple of years ago and it really changed the way I viewed playing a video game but since then you have just left me hanging.  I actually don't want another Mario or Zelda game anytime soon, what I do want are games that are fun and interesting. I guess at the end of the day I just want to enjoy playing my Wii so now it's up to you Nintendo to give me a reason.
