On the Fine Art of Broken Bridges

Posted by: GourdCaptain

While recently playing Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story,  I ran into a stumbling block that stumped me for an hour. (The rest of this may contain spoilers for the game depending on your definition of spoiler. And your definition of may.)

When the game sent me to look for the third sage with a star cure, I ran through the area known as the Dimble Woods with Mario and Luigi. After encountering the first attack piece in the area, I figured, "Hey, new special attack", and started collecting them. After gathering six of the ten pieces needed to get the attack, I wander into an area where a Wiggler instructs me that due to the recent traumatic events in the forest, I can't go into this area.

Why this particular area, I don't know. Having explored every other area of the forest, I figure the remaining pieces are past Wiggler. He isn't that tall, so I try to jump over him. Unfortunately, he has an impenetrable sky-tall force field he is carrying on his back. He can't be dug under, and although I beat the ever-loving crud out of a Wiggler much earlier in the game, I can't declare Mortal Kombat on him. As such, I am stumped, and spend an hour looking around the woods for a means to bypass him.

Somebody Needs a Price Cut

Two memories stand out to me. The first is standing in line at midnight at the local Wal-Mart when the X-Box was first being released. Aside from the NES I'd always been a PC gamer. I'd played on the other systems at friends' houses but never bought any of them. But I was a Marathon veteran and couldn't wait to play Halo. I got one of those launch units at the local Wal-Mart but ended up having to go to another one to get a copy of Halo. I didn't connect it to the internet. I was just coming off my Return to Castle Wolfenstein multiplayer binge and need to solo game for awhile, particularly since I wasn't used to using a controller. Having that X-Box was a joy.

XBox

(The good ol' days weren't always good and tomorrow ain't as bad as it seems.)

On the other end of the emotional spectrum I remember as a young boy the sinking feeling on Saturday morning when Dad would look at me and utter those hated words - "Somebody needs a haircut." Even today I look back on that with some chagrin as I'm now forced to grow hair on my face to spite the top of my head. All that hair lost in my youth when I could have looked cool. When it's your hair nobody likes to be told that it needs to be cut.

What these two memories have in common is that I may not be their dad but I am a long term customer and while like my hair no one likes to be told when their price needs to be cut, Microsoft, it's time for a price cut. (Why the Elite price cut is too little after the jump.)

It hasn't been a good few weeks for gamers, and in TWR VII, I want to touch on Microsoft's layoffs over 5,000 employees, but mainly the layoffs dealing with CP and Major Nelson, and what effect this has on my views of how much Microsoft really cares about its community. Read on, faithful...readers? =)

In a world where not too many things are consistant, you can rest assured that it's Sunday, and that means it's time for The Weekly Rant V

First off, I just want to thank MET a GILLION times because he made me this badass banner to go on the top of each weekly rant. If you want to give it a shot and make me one, then I would be more than happy to throw it in the rotation, no matter how good or bad. It's the thought that counts ;).

Last week, I touched on some of my biggest let downs of 2008, and I'm going to start off this week by finishing up that topic. This week, I figured I would finish my trifecta of bitching and bring the Nintendo Wii to the table. The God-like Wii that prints money for Nintendo, whenever one can be found to be bought anyway. What could I possibly have againist Nintendo's wii-like giant? Find out, after the jump.

Fresh into the new year, it's that time again for The Weekly Rant! I can not believe it is already 2009. Can you?  In Edition IV, I figure we could take a look back at 2008 and re-live some of the things that pissed me off the most as a gamer. Care to see if you agree? Hit the jump to read into the new year...
