Modern Warfare 2 is a juggernaut among video games. Love it or hate it, no one can deny the popularity of the game.
Respawn, oh, I mean Infinity Ward has done an excellent job with the visual clarity and sound quality of the game. And I admit this as a hater. I am a Halo fanboy and being confronted with a game that all my friends claimed would kill and bury Halo 3 simply turned me off to the game. But I finally started playing it and I have to say the game is good, not better than Halo, but good.
That being said, there are some things in Modern Warfare 2 that I hope they rethink for the next game, Call of Duty Black Ops.
What the ????
Dying is never fun, but in this game, its beyond frustrating. What is amazing is that I wouldn't even be frustrated if it wasn't for the kill cam feature in the game. For example . . .
So I run through a door, try to knife a guy, and get shot instead. I say, hmmm, I thought I should have killed him because I hit him with the knife before he shot me but maybe I missed the knife, he shot be before I finished the motion of stabbing, or maybe my rhythm is just off. And then the kill cam comes on and it shows me the encounter from the other guys perspective. According to his view, I run through the door, stand right next to him while scratching my butt, and then he shoots me.
LAG ANYONE? BAD NET CODE? Whatever it is, it needs to be fixed for the next game. I'm sure all games have lag unless you are doing a system link, but this game is very twitchy and life and death are always a split second apart. Any amount of lag is extremely noticeable.
My Team Lost 3900 to 7500 and I Helped!
So yes, I helped my team lose, why? Because I am trying to rank up my sniper, and to get the thermal scope I need 20 kills with the ACOG scope, and that scope sucks on a sniper rifle. The weapon and perk unlocks are a stroke of genius in the game, but they sometimes encourage you to play in a way that hurts the team. The working to get unlocks and earn kill streaks during the game encourages selfish play. I don't even play MW2 against randoms with a mic because I don't see a point. Everyone is just trying to get their own kills. I guess I would like special unlocks and bonuses for team play. Like what if you had a "team streak" where you have a special set of more powerful kill streaks for getting a series of kills that someone else assists you with or someone elses kills that you assisted with. I.E. 3 kills gets you a missile turret drop, and the only kills that count towards this drop are an assist or kill you get that someone else gets assist points from.
Skill Gap
Some one please leave a comment and explain this to me, but every time I play MW 2, the kills for each player on either team always breaks down to one or two top guys with +20 kills and then 2 guys with 7 to 10 kills and one guy that died 18 times. Why is there such a skill gap on each side? Only a few times have I ever seen a game end up with a team with a decent kill spread across the entire team. It seems like the game balances the teams by making sure each team has a group of really good players, some OK players, and then at least one guy that still hasn't figured out which end of the gun the bullets come from. How about grouping by how well the players play so that both teams are all noobs, ok players, are elite players? Just a thought.

Seriously though it seems like the teams are split up like that to make sure one team doesn't just have four or five great players. It makes sure that a team is more even.
