The character models look bland, but Mortal Kombat for the Vita will not launch until the Spring of 2012. So I have hope that improves -- which I feel it will. I am really impressed with the amount of features they are packing into this portable version. Even the DLC characters are going to be included. What do you guys think?

The Video Game industry: Then, and now.

JVB

I grew up during the beginnings of the Video Game industry, and have owned every generation of consoles. The Atari system was such an amazing machine, and experience -- so much so, I assumed (at the time) that there would be nothing better for me, and my fellow Gamers. Why should I? Here was a machine that gave me the luxury of playing some of my favorite arcade games in the comfort of my home. Pac Man looked, and played like Pac Man, and so did Asteroids! Anything better than the Atari only existed in dreams, or fairytales.

Fast forward 30 plus years later, and here I am -- surrounded by amazing Video Game consoles, and portable devices that play amazing games, that I can play. The technology in today's phones was only seen in old episodes of Star Trek. The Xbox 360 has an online service that allows Gamers to talk to each other WHILE playing a Video Game at the same time! The Playstation 3 has this new media format that stores over 50 gigabits of information! Nintendo created the first 3D held-held gaming device that displays games, and movies is three dimensional space!!!! Shit: I have a "tablet" computer that allows me to browse the internet, chat on Skype, and play awesome Video Games like Angry Birds, and Infinity Blade. And I haven't mentioned the technology that is found in todays PC's -- which provide amazing visuals for games like Battlefield 3, and Crisis.

With everything I mentioned above: You can tell that I am truly amazed, and thankful for the great "toys" we have to choose from. But there is a large number of people who have to critique these amazing items for the things they don't do, rather than commend them for what they do. For every Gamer who claims to be a fan of the Xbox 360, there is another Gamer hellbent on convincing that individual otherwise. If the Nintendo Wii doesn't feature true 1:1 precision, someone will be there to point that out, and brand that console a failure. The iPhone 4S has this awesome feature named Siri, but people will be quick to bitch that Siri will not give word by word instructions on how to wipe their butt. There is a "hater" for everything the is awesome. I am truly baffled because these "haters" reside in the same Video Game community that has been spoiled-silly with amazing technology, and experiences that no other form of entertainment has been able to provide. Why is this? Is it because a lot of todays consumers/Gamers who now podcast, blog, Youtube, etc, don't understand how good they have it? Did they forget the 8-bit era? Remember when the soundtrack to a Video Game was in MIDI form? What about this one: Installing a game from a floppy disk. How many of you remember that?

Living the Vita Loca!

*The annual VGA awards (Spike TV) is tomorrow night, and almost every podcaster I know will talk about it on the social networks. So I decided that the Post Game Report podcast will record after viewing the show, and give our analysis on what we've seen. You can bet that the PGR crew will be fired up, and ready to tell it like it is.

*The Sony Vita is approaching it's release date in Japan. I am really interested in seeing reviews on the Vita, because I would really like one of my own. It is an incredible piece of technology, that has good software support, which didn't exist for the first Sony handheld: The PSP. Add the fact that we're getting an OLED touch screen, and duel analog sticks -- and you can see why I am excited to see it in action. I'm sure there will be plenty of Vita footage at the VGA's.

*And check out this awesome Dark Knight Rises poster:
